„The head that has been chasing me for 50 years“

“The HEAD” is more than just a painting for EL MORA; it is a living saga since 1973. Originally a ink drawing of a one-eyed man, “The HEAD” evolved into an oil painting with a blue background, symbolizing clarity and the quest for truth. The head has been a constant presence for the artist over five decades, inspiring and captivating him.

For EL MORA, people and faces reflect true confessions, and the discovery of one’s true self became his central theme.

During the years 1973 to 1975, “The Head” was strongly influenced by African art and cubism, with dominant brown and blue tones, while the images in 1994 and 1995 showed more softness and flexibility.

In later years, the expression became more angular, colorful, and wild, with shifted lines and elements of Tachism integrated.

Old versions are revisited, improved, and integrated into the flow of current creativity. “The HEAD” remains a constant challenge until the end of EL MORA’s artistic career.
